Alfredo Dufour
San Juan, Argentina, 1989
Alfredo Dufour’s work begins with a problem and finds the exact point at which to synthetically represent the dystopian complexity of the present. Using simple techniques and now-obsolete production tools such as the Paint program, he creates icons that capture attention and, through their ambiguity, become a method for expressing what troubles or disturbs him. Everyday objects or situations are decontextualized, resignified, and staged within timeless scenes. Expanded drawing and pop aesthetics are the stylistic language Dufour adopts to reflect a way of being in the world, both materially and emotionally. In some way, these images operate as commentaries on his own intimacy.
He studied Fine Arts at the National University of Cuyo. In 2016, he participated in the Artists Program at Torcuato Di Tella University. In 2017, he attended the Can Serrat residency in Barcelona, and in 2023, the Casa Wabi Residency in Oaxaca, Mexico. He received the First Acquisition Prize at the 17th UADE Visual Arts Competition in 2021 and the First Acquisition Prize of the Central Bank Award in 2022. He has held solo and group exhibitions at institutions and galleries such as MALBA, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, the Argentine Embassy in London, Museo MARCO La Boca, Pasto, Constitución, among others.
