Biography

Río de Janeiro, Brazil, 1978

Eduardo Berliner's avant-garde approach has left its mark on his reinterpretation of painting as a contemporary artistic language. Graduated in Graphic Design in Brazil and with a Master's degree in Typographic Design in the United Kingdom, Berliner stands out for his ability to appropriate pre-existing images and transform them into a new visual narrative. The essence of his work lies in an artistic process that delves into his emotions, impulses, and subconscious, allowing his works to evolve organically rather than follow a linear trajectory.

Belonging to a generation that challenges conventions, since the mid-2000s, Berliner has explored this creative process using various materials, from watercolors and drawings to objects and prints. He finds inspiration in daily sketches, photographs taken during his urban wanderings, and the study of European painters such as Goya, Courbet, and Manet. Although his works may evoke familiar elements, Berliner elevates them to a level where they defy any previous description or denomination.

Ambiguity characterizes each piece by this artist. His pursuit of pictorial quality and self-awareness intertwines with a universe of latent violence and perversion, generating a visceral impact that bewilders and fascinates viewers. Although he reproduces previously known scenes, Berliner manages to convey a sense of repulsion and terror when pouring them onto the canvas. Thus, he emerges as an innovator who challenges expectations, merging the past with the present and the familiar with the unknown.
