Daniel Guzmán

          Daniel Guzmán's work reflects a profound influence from his passions for literature and music. He studied Visual Arts at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (now the Faculty of Arts and Design, FAD) and is also known as the founder and member of the rock group Los Pellejos. Through his creations, Guzmán shares the diverse influences he has cultivated, reflecting on his own experience in the world and creating a personal and intimate territory that mirrors his exploration of urban landscapes and contemporary Mexican culture.

          As an avid reader and tireless music enthusiast, Guzmán absorbs and recombines his cultural references with complete freedom. With autobiographical undertones, he merges and transforms elements from his daily life such as comics, cartoons, song lyrics, pre-Hispanic iconography, articles, and crime scene photographs, incorporating them as essential components of his artistic expression. Using various mediums like ink, pencil, acrylic, or pastel, he creates images that seem to continuously mutate and intertwine with text to form a complex web of connections and connotations.

          Guzmán's exploration is based on a constant and disciplined search, guided by the intuition of his hand that translates the artist's imagination and references. While he has ventured into mediums like installation and video, Guzmán's work possesses an undeniable graphic character where drawing plays a central role, along with his strategic and infectious sense of humor.
